Ghost Tours and Walks in Edinburgh
Blackhart Storytellers Tours
Blackhart Storytellers aim to be different to other ghost tour companies. All their tours are written by an acclaimed author and adapted by professional historians who are also entertainers and wonderful storytellers. They are the only tour company in Edinburgh to offer a children's walking tour.
Available walks from Blackhart Storeytellers Tours
Blackhart Storeytellers have three walks you can choose from:
City of the Dead Haunted Graveyard Tour
The City of the Dead haunted graveyard tour is probably the company's most famous walk. It is the only tour in Edinburgh that goes to Greyfriars Graveyard and has access to the normally locked section known as the Covenanters Prison.
Greyfriars Graveyard is notorious for the MacKenzie Poltergeist, the best documented case of paranormal activity in history. Bloody MacKenzie, buried in the Black Mausoleum, is the judge responsible for imprisoning hundreds of covenanters, ironically, in the very same graveyard.
The City of the Dead graveyard tour combines humour with horror and history but according to many people, can get very scary indeed and can be physically or mentally distressing, especially when inside the prison.
The Secret City Tour
Compared to the City of the Dead ghost tour which is not suitable for children, the Secret City is the only kids walking tour in Edinburgh, perfect for families.
Although little publicity has been made for this walk, it promises a lot. The tour is designed by Jan-Andrew Henderson, an historian and novelist, author of many best-selling history and kids books and performed by professional children's storytellers.
Some of the highlights of the kids' Secret City Tour include stories related to Harry Potter, Greyfriars Bobby, the world's worst poet and the origin of Frankenstein.
Secret Scotland History Walk
The Secret Scotland History Walk is the third tour you can opt for from Blackhart Tours, giving an comprehensive, yet interesting and amusing account of Edinburgh's past.
