Are you considering a stay at the Fraser Suites Hotel in Edinburgh? It's a tempting choice as the recently opened Fraser Suites is perfectly located right in the heart of the city centre, just a few steps away from the Royal Mile. The guest rooms are contemporary and well equipped. They even have their own kitchenette area with microwave. But is the Fraser Suites Hotel a better choice than other 4 star hotels close to the City Centre? And is it good value for money?
I've read hundreds of reviews from guests who have stayed at the Fraser Suites since it opened and the following is a clear and unbiased summary of what these guests really thought of their stay at this hotel.

- Chic rooms decorated to an extremely high standard and equipped with everything a guest might need including an iPod dock, refrigerator and microwave.

- The hotel has been tastefully converted from an old Victorian building originally built as newspaper offices and retains many of the features from that time such as panelled walls and high ceilings.

What do guests really think?
Most reviewers were extremely complimentary and many said that they would be happy to return to Fraser Suites or recommend the hotel to friends.
- They loved the central location, almost without exception, as it is located so close to the shops, bars and attractions of Edinburgh city centre.
- Many guests loved the kitchenette area in the guest rooms as this gave them extra flexibility and eating options.
- There were, however, several negative comments on the cleaning and maintenance of the rooms.
- Many reviewers agreed that the Fraser Suites has the potential to be top-class accommodation, although the hotel does still seem to be going through teething problems and not all facilities are working at full capacity.
- Some guests also thought that as a 4-star accommodation, the hotel should be more forthcoming with extras such as tea and coffee and complimentary toiletries.
My Recommendation
The hotel has not been open very long so it's difficult to make a full recommendation on the Fraser Suites in Edinburgh as teething problems are inevitable with any new accommodation.
The standard of cleaning mentioned by several guests is one area of concern. However, many guests thoroughly enjoyed their stay and are already saying that they will be returning in the future. This positive feedback, coupled with the fantastic location make this new luxury accommodation a good choice on where to stay in Edinburgh.

In Depth Review of the Fraser Suites Hotel in Edinburgh
Chic, design boutique hotel. Central location just off the Royal Mile.
Average room price per night: £99-£275 ($156-$432)
What is the Fraser Suites Hotel like?
Fraser Suites Edinburgh is part of the world-wide Frasers Hospitality group specialising in serviced residences and apartments for the corporate market. Fraser Suites Edinburgh, on the other hand, is a 75-room boutique hotel which seems to be slightly different from other properties within the Fraser Group in that it is a hotel rather than serviced apartments. It is also geared towards the leisure market partly thanks to its fantastic location close to the Royal Mile.
Building and room design
- The 75 rooms are extremely tastefully decorated in a chic contemporary style. There are various categories of rooms available, some with separate living areas.
- Some of the rooms have stunning views over Edinburgh, but certain rooms on the ground floor are at street level and lack privacy.
- The rooms feature a kitchenette area with a microwave, refrigerator, crockery and cutlery and this was appreciated by many of the guests.
- The guest rooms are equipped with flat screen TV and an iPod dock. Broadband is available but chargeable.
- Most reviewers agreed that the rooms were comfortable and well-equipped, but there were some guests who felt that the rooms were too small and many also mentioned that they are very hot although fans are available.
- Many guests said that the beds are extremely comfortable, but some complained that their double bed was made up of two single beds pushed together.
- The bathrooms are of an extremely high quality. They have huge rain fall showers and are very tastefully decorated, although some reviewers commented on the lack of hot water.
- There is a gym at the hotel, although there were not sufficient reviews to form an opinion on it.
- The hotel offers guests the choice of self-service complimentary laundry facilities, although it is not known if this is operational yet as a recent reviewer said that it was not yet up and running.
Staff and level of service
- Most guests felt that the staff are extremely helpful and courteous. A few reviewers found them lacking in knowledge in certain things, which may be due to the fact that the hotel has opened relatively recently.
- There were some reviewers however who complained about the standard of cleaning in the guest rooms, with examples of items being left behind by previous guests not being removed and stained sheets and mattresses.
- There were also some who did not like the fact that there is no cleaning service or room service on a Sunday or public holidays.
- Many guests complained that the hotel does not refill the tea/coffee and toiletries after they have been used up. It seems that these are intended as a 'welcome' gift and are not replaced as a matter of course.
- A couple of guests were not happy with the fact that the prices they were quoted did not include VAT, which they were not aware of until they came to pay the bill.
Food and drink
- The restaurant Glasshouse off the Mile offers contemporary Scottish cuisine and although there were not many reviews as it has only opened recently, the few reviews available indicated that it serves excellent quality food.
- There does not appear to be any bar at the hotel which some guests mentioned. Breakfast is an optional extra and although there were few reviews on it, it seems to be of a high quality.
Location and parking
- The Fraser Suites Edinburgh is located in St. Giles Street, just off the Royal Mile and extremely close to Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle. Although it is in such a central area, it is on a quiet street and some guests remarked how quiet it was.
- The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Waverley Train Station.
- There is no parking available, although the hotel offers a discount at the nearby NCP car park. Many reviewers though that this was too far away and too expensive.
Nice touches
- There is a complimentary shuttle bus during the week which goes to the city centre.
- The hotel keeps takeaway menus behind reception in case guests want to order in.
- The hotel is decorated with original works from the Edinburgh College of Art.
