Hogmanay calendar of events
Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh last for four days. Below is a calendar of the most important events:
Thursday 29 December 2005
- Torchlight Procession starts at 6.30pm in Parliament Square, near St Giles Cathedral where you can exchange vouchers for torches. The event lasts a few hours.
Friday 30 December 2005
- Night Afore International starts at 8pm in George Street and finishes at 11pm.
- The Catalan Parade and Pipe Band Overture leaves Mound Square towards George Street at 7.45pm
- The Minyons of Terrassa human tower can be seen from 8pm
- L'Avalot Present Dinomaquia street theatre and pyrotechnics from 8pm
- Scottish Ceilidh Stage on George Street, outside the Assembly Rooms from 8pm
Saturday 31 December 2005
- Candlelit Concert in St Giles Cathedral on the High Street starts at 7.30pm.
- Hogmanay Street Party kicks off at 10pm on the six stages in Princes Street and finishes at 1am. NOTE: A curfew is in place meaning you must get to the Party before 11pm when gates close.
- Ceilidh in the Gardens starts at 10pm (gates open from 9pm) and finishes at 1am. NOTE: A curfew is in place meaning you must get to the Gardens before 11pm when gates close.
- Princes Street Gardens New Year Concert starts at 10pm at the Ross bandstand and finishes at 1am. NOTE: A curfew is in place meaning you must get to the Gardens before 11pm when gates close.
- New Year Fireworks start at midnight and best seen from Calton Hill, Princes Street, Salisbury Crags, Blackford Hill.
- New Year Revels starts at 9.30pm in George Street's Assembly Rooms and finishes at 3.30am.
Sunday 1 January 2006
- The One O'Clock Run starts from the Castle esplanade at 1pm.
- Edinburgh's Dogmanay takes place in Holyrood Park between 1.30pm-3.30pm.
- Bicycle Triathlon and Iron Kids Duathlon takes place in Holyrood Park from 11.30am.
Hogmanay tickets & passes
Before looking for Hogmanay tickets in Edinburgh you should know that only a few of them are ticketed and require a pass.
Below is list of events taking place in Edinburgh as part of the 2005-2006 New Year celebrations:
Torchlight Procession
Free event, no ticket required. Torch vouchers cost £4 in advance or £5 on the night. All proceedings go to charity.
Night Afore International
Free event, no ticket required.
The Hogmanay Royal Bank Street Party
Pass required, even for children. Street party passes cost £2.50 and can be bought online from the Hogmanay Box Office. There are 100,000 passes available but they go very, very fast so book early. Passes are limited to 4 a booking.
The pass for the Hogmanay street party consists in a wrist band which you must be wearing when entering the cordoned area. Some other ticketed events may include a pass to the Royal Bank Street Party.
Concert in Princes Street Gardens
Ticket required. Scottish band Texas will headline the concert yet again. Tickets for the Ross Band Stand enclosure cost £35 while admission for the rest of West Princes Street Gardens cost £30. A ticket to the Hogmanay Concert in Princes Street Gardens include a pass to the Royal Bank of Scotland Street Party.
Tickets go on sale Saturday 29th of October.
Ceilidh in the Gardens and Winter Wonderland
Ticket required. The Edinburgh's Hogmanay Festival Membership pass costs £45 and includes entrance to the open-air giant Ceilidh, fairground rides and Edinburgh Wheel.
Seven Hills Fireworks
Free event, no ticket required.
New Year Revels
Ticket required. Tickets are now sold out despite being a bit pricey. They are limited to four per booking and reserved only for over 18s.
Candlelit Concert
Ticket required. Tickets are from £16 and went on sale on Saturday, November 19th
The One O'Clock Run
Entry pass required. It costs £5 to enter the run. Tickets went on sale on Saturday, November 19th.
Latest on Hogmanay Tickets
Royal Bank of Scotland Street Party passes are now sold out as are tickets for the New Year Revels. Entry to the Street Party is only possible by purchasing a Edinburgh's Hogmanay Party Pack or Edinburgh's Hogmanay Festival Membership which include access to lots of other events and goodies.
