Recommendations for Long Stay Parking at Edinburgh Airport

Updated November 2011

For long stay car parking in and around Edinburgh Airport -- for stays of several days, a week or more -- you have a lot of options. For the sake of convenience, I've split these options into three main categories:

These sections give you detailed information as well as summaries of long stay car parks available either on the grounds of Edinburgh Airport or nearby. I've also included some short stay parking options (also see my dedicated page: Recommended Short Stay Car Parks at Edinburgh Airport).

Overview of Long Stay Airport Car Parks

With the exception of Long Stay Edinburgh, which is owned by BAA, all of the other car parks are owned by third-party companies. When dealing with all these different companies, you'll want to know whether their car parks are reliable, secure, and whether they make it speedy and easy to get to the terminal.

To that end, I've drawn up a table to give a quick overview. Again, please visit the on-airport or off-airport parking pages for more details. The table below will tell you which airport car parks you need to look at.

Conclusion

If you compare all of the long stay car parks by ease of transfer, you'll see that there's honestly not that much difference between on-airport and off-airport car parks. All coach or bus transfers are 1-5 minutes from the terminal, so frequency of the coaches is probably a more important factor than the exact location of the car parks in relation to Edinburgh Airport.

The comparison table only ranks car parks according to cost per week and NCP Scotpark is the cheapest parking option. Moreover, NCP Scotpark seems like the best long stay car park in terms of both lowest cost (by a clear margin) and very good security at the expense of a very small added cost for a little extra transfer time. It's definitely worth having a look at the other long stay options, as others may be more suited to your specific needs, but as an overall recommendation for long stay parking, I'd pick NCP.

As I've noted, many of these companies also offer short stay parking services. Please see my page on BAA short stay parking at Edinburgh Airport.

Airport Car Parks vs. Private Parking near the Airport

If none of these car parks are cheap enough to suit your budget, there may be some private parking spaces near the airport offered by Edinburgh residents that are significantly cheaper. However, the disadvantages of using private car parking spaces include the risks of not going with an established company and the fact that it will be up to you to sort out your own transfer to/from the airport. Using private parking alternatives also brings up issues of security.

Whatever you go for, customer reviews will help you see which ones have proven to be good options for other people, but remember that the bigger car parking companies have much more established reputations and can ultimately be held more accountable.
