Which are the Lowest Megabus Fares?
Megabus.com is the most popular budget coach company which operates throughout the UK covering many routes throughout England and Scotland. Fares are advertised from just £1 one way plus a £0.50 booking fee and while it is possible to find some very cheap fares for the Megabus routes, it can be very difficult to find the lowest advertised fares as they sell out very quickly.
All fares are calculated per one way leg, so you just need to choose your departures and add the outgoing and return fares together, not forgetting the £.50 booking fee. Finding the cheapest tickets takes forward planning and patience and there are certain things to bear in mind when planning a journey on Megabus or comparing their prices with National Express funfares:
- Cheap £1 deals are released around three months before departure and these usually sell out very quickly, especially on the more popular routes like London - Edinburgh or London - Glasgow, so it pays to book in advance.
- If you can be flexible with the travel dates, or even the time of day that you can travel, then you are much more likely to bag a cheap deal.
- Even if the £1 fares are sold out, it is still worth booking ahead as it can mean the difference between, say, a £10 return fare or a £40 return fare.
- If the cheapest fares are already sold out, don't forget to compare your quoted price with National Express. NOTE: Mega bus fares are often lower than National Express but not always.
- The best way to get the cheapest return fare is to combine the cheapest 2 single fares you can find.
Patience is key as you can only view the fares on Megabus.com for one day at a time. If you are flexible with dates, it pays to try as many different dates as possible in search of the cheapest fare. It takes time, but the end result will be worth it if you can find a better deal.
