Edinburgh Airport Parking Guide | On-Airport Parking

On-Airport Long Stay Car Parks Compared

Updated November 2011

The three options for long stay on-airport parking I've found are Long Stay Edinburgh, Low Cost Airport Parking, and Secure Airparks.

You may also want to see my short stay parking guide. If you're planning on sticking around for more than a couple of hours, though -- maybe for a day? -- some of the airport parking options on this page may work out cheaper, so keep your eyes peeled for day ticket prices.

My research shows that it's nearly always cheaper to book in advance as you get to make use of available supersaver discounts!

Here's a comparison table covering the most popular long stay car parks for quick reference:

Comparison of Popular Off-Airport Car Parks in Edinburgh

Upside Downside Cost
Long Stay Edinburgh Online pre-booking discounts; Park Mark approved security Day tickets aren't cheap; pre-booked tickets with discounts are inflexible (cannot be changed) £9.10 for a day; £33 for a week
Low Cost Parking Good security Charges you a lot for extras and admin; have to hand in your keys £3.25 for a day; £33 for a week
Secure Airparks Discounts with an Early Bird Rate A lot of admin costs if you want to cancel or change £3 for a day; £32 for a week

NOTE: Remember that costs are subject to frequent change, so please view the links provided below to check current parking prices on the company websites.

And here are a few more details for each of the long stay parking

Long Stay Edinburgh

  • On-the-day prices are currently £9.10 for 24 hours minimum, but discounts are available when booking online (seemingly incremental the longer you stay). A week's stay is about £33 when you pre-book. Check the official Edinburgh Airport website here in case this changes.
  • Minimum stay for pre-booking is 1 day; bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance and can be made up to 12 months before the day.
  • Bookings can't be amended online. You'll have to phone them: +44 121 410 5258. Discounted pre-bookings may be inflexible.
  • The car park is well lit and frequently patrolled, with CCTV and security fencing. It's Park Mark approved, which means it has been vetted by the Police.
  • A courtesy coach is available to transfer you to the airport every hour of the day, every day of the year. It arrives every 7 minutes and takes around 3 minutes to get to the terminal.
  • There are parking bays for Blue Badge holders, and there is wheelchair access on the courtesy coaches.
  • Trailers are not permitted.
  • You don't have to hand your keys in.

You can book BAA parking online

My conclusion: If you go with Long Stay Edinburgh make sure you account for the time it takes to transfer to the terminal, which could add up to 10 minutes to your overall journey!

Low Cost Airport Parking

[Map of Low Cost Airport Parking]

  • Owned by the Flying Scot company, parking prices are identical to the off-airport car park. At the time of writing, a day ticket costs £3.25 online, a week costs £33, and a fortnight costs £49.
  • It's well lit, and secured with CCTV, electrified fencing and 24-hour guard dog patrol. All car parks are fully insured.
  • Free 24-hour Courtesy Coaches transfer, a 2-minute drive from the departures terminal.
  • There is disabled access.
  • It's open 24/7, all year round.
  • They offer an extra valet service in various flavours, where you can get your car washed, hoovered and freshened while you're gone.
  • They also offer Express Parking, a meet and greet service, but it'll cost you an additional £10 one-way and £20 return.
  • Trailers are permitted, but you'll have to book an extra parking space.
  • Cancellations must be done at least 7 days in advance or you'll be charged in full; changes incur a £10 admin charge.
  • You have to hand in your keys.

My conclusion:You'll have to decide whether any of the extras are worth it, because they're not cheap. If you go for this car park the make sure you don't plan on any changes or they'll charge you even more.

Secure Airparks

[Map of Secure Airparks]

  • At the time of writing, you can get a day ticket for around £3 when you pre-book online, and beyond that the daily charge varies. A week's airport parking with Secure Airport costs about £32; a fortnight's £60.
  • There's an Early Bird Rate if you book more than 8 days in advance, which seems to discount a few pounds.
  • Cancellations must be done more than 24 hours in advance, but you will never get a straight refund. For bookings of more than 7 days, they retain 15%. For bookings of 6 days or less, it can only be used as credits for future bookings.
  • Well lit, with CCTV, security fences and patrols. It's Park Mark approved, which means it has been vetted by the Police. Cars are insured while parked.
  • You only have to turn up 10 minutes before your check-in, with 1 minute transfer time by coach.
  • There are valet services available, from a £6.90 wax and shine to much more expensive options.
  • They also offer Meet & Greet, but I couldn't find any details on their website.
  • There are disabled parking spaces available.
  • This is a green parking option, certified Carbon Balanced.
  • Vans cost £1.50 per day extra.
  • You get to keep your keys.

You can book Secure Airparks parking online but you do have to register on the site.

My conclusion: This is the airport car park of choice for those who want to park green, though I'm not sure what exactly makes them Carbon Balanced! At the time of writing, Secure Airparks is narrowly the cheapest for both short and long stay parking.

I think all three Edinburgh Airport car parks are basically the same for long stay, in price and features. Low Cost Airport Parking is the only one whose security is not Park Mark approved, but its security is still very high. The best thing to do is to is to check the prices yourself for the specific booking you have in mind, as they will vary.

Alternatively, see these off-airport options and official on-airport short stay options. For a comparison of on-airport and off-airport parking, take a look {here}. Or you can take a look at private parking near the airport.
