Stay at the Quality Airport Hotel
How Good Is This Airport Hotel in Edinburgh?
Are you considering a stay at the Quality Airport Hotel in Edinburgh? It is a popular hotel due to its proximity to Edinburgh Airport. Winner of the Airport Hotel of the Year 2009 award at the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards, this hotel offers functional accommodation, all-day dining and free parking with their Park, Stay and Fly Packages. But is this a better option than other airport hotels in the area and does it represent value for money?
I've read hundreds of reviews from guests who have stayed at the Quality Airport over the years and the following is a clear and unbiased summary of what these guests really thought of their stay at this hotel.
What's special about the Quality Airport Hotel?
- As a 3-star hotel it offers clean and functional rooms, an affordable option for an airport hotel.
- It offers free parking for the duration of your holiday and a chargeable 24h shuttle to the airport.
- There are two restaurants which offer quality dining throughout the day.
- Location: It is located a 5-minute drive from Edinburgh Airport, very convenient for those travelling in or out of the airport.

What do guests really think?
Although there were some criticisms of the hotel, the majority of reviews were positive and many guests said that they would happily return to the Quality Airport Hotel.
- Most of them agreed that it was a perfectly functional and affordable option for an airport stay, although some thought it too basic.
- The Park Stay and Fly package, which includes up to 15 days free parking was appreciated by many and was the reason that several guests had chosen this hotel.
- Many guests agreed that it was good value, especially with the free parking, but others said that it was expensive for such a basic hotel and did not represent good value for money.
My Recommendation
Although fairly basic and functional, most guests only stay for one night and the most important factor is the proximity to the airport and the ease of getting there on the shuttle service. The Park Stay and Fly package is also a huge bonus and seems to be very good value for money.
I would therefore recommend this hotel for an airport stay with a couple of words of advice. Before booking just check the prices of other airport hotels such as the Hilton Airport Hotel to check that the Quality Hotel really is offering the best deal. When booking ask for a larger room and see if it is possible to be allocated one of the less noisy rooms to ensure a good nights sleep.

In Depth Review of the Quality Airport Hotel in Edinburgh
Affordable hotel with free parking and 24 hours airport transfer. Very close to Edinburgh Airport.
Average room price per night: £70-£123 ($110-$193)
What is the Quality Airport Hotel like?
The Quality Hotel is a 3-star airport hotel, part of the Quality Chain of Hotels, which is useful for those travelling through Edinburgh Airport. It is functional and basic but most reviewers accepted this from a 3-star airport hotel. The hotel management does seem to be proactive in addressing issues raised in the reviews. As an example they changed their laundry provider due to negative comments on stained towels.
In response to the issues raised on the guest rooms needing a refurbishment the management advised that they are in the process of renovating all guest rooms and will be replacing all carpets, beds, lights and fixtures.
Building and room design
- There are 95 rooms at the Quality Hotel, including larger family rooms, which, while not luxurious, are functional and clean, although several guests reported that they were shabby and basic and in need of updating and refurbishment.
- The rooms seem to be of various sizes even within the same price bracket and in response to one complaint on the internet, the manager recommended asking for a larger room if needed.
- Most guests agreed that the rooms were clean although some reported problems in this area.
- Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel although several reported that the bandwidth is very narrow and access slow.
- There is no air-conditioning and a few guests said that the rooms were very hot. Others said that the rooms were too cold due to lack of heating.
- Noise seems to be a big issue both internally and externally. Aircraft noise can be heard from the hotel although many said that this is not a huge problem as there are currently no flights during the night.
- However internal noise was brought up in many reviews, as several guests said that the walls are paper thin and they can hear guests in the corridor and next door which prevented many from sleeping.
- The problem is worse in certain parts of the hotel, and it seems that if you have a room close to reception you can hear the staff talking throughout the night.
- Guests in many rooms on the ground floor can also hear the shuttle bus pulling up every fifteen minutes throughout much of the night.
- Another room is situated right next to the kitchen fan which is extremely noise from early morning until late at night.
Staff and level of service
- The majority of guests agreed that the staff were helpful and accommodating.
- A few said that the check in and check out process was chaotic due to the lack of staff.
- Some guests also said that there are queues in the bar area due to lack of staff and the tables are not cleared regularly.
Food and drink
- There is a bar and two eating options La Bonne Auberge and the Lounge, serving food throughout the day.
- Many guests were happy with the quality of the food, although a few said that they sacrifice quality for portion size.
- Most reviewers said that the breakfasts were good quality although a few thought that it was too expensive.
- A few guests reported that the tables in the eating area were sticky as they were not cleaned on a regular basis.
Location and parking
- The Quality Airport Hotel is located a 5-minute shuttle bus ride from Edinburgh Airport.
- There is a reasonable priced 24h shuttle bus which departs on a regular basis.
- They offer the 'Park Stay and Fly' package which includes up to 15 days parking before or after the hotel stay.
- Note: many travellers commented on the free shuttle service to the terminal but this is now chargeable, at a reasonable price, from 1st July 2010.
