My Recommendation
It is difficult to make a final recommendation on the Ramada Mount Royal due to the extremely mixed nature of the reviews. The one advantage that it does have over other better hotels is its very central location in the centre of the city and many guests were prepared to overlook the fact that some of the guest rooms were not up to an acceptable standard.
The Ramada Mount Royal Hotel is also relatively inexpensive, so many reviewers did feel that it was good value for money. If you want to stay right in the city centre of Edinburgh and are on a limited budget, then I would make the cautious recommendation to consider staying at the Ramada as long as you are aware of what to expect.
I would recommend contacting the hotel in advance to check the type of room that you will be staying in. I would maybe ask for a refurbished room on the higher floors overlooking Edinburgh Castle, even if it means paying slightly extra.

The Ramada Mount Royal Hotel is part of the Ramada chain of hotels. It is a 3-star hotel and its facilities and prices are reflected in this rating. Many guests commented on the fact that the guest rooms are tired and in urgent need of updating. Some of the reviews suggest that there is a refurbishment programme in place.
Building and room design
- There are 158 guest rooms, some with views over Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle. The Executive rooms have a balcony to enjoy the view.

- Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile are both a 5-minute walk away. The Ramada Hotel is approximately 200m away from Waverley train station and 600m from the bus station.
- There is no parking at the hotel and because it's right on Princes Street, it is difficult to even stop to leave luggage. There is discounted parking at an NCP car-park a 10-minute walk away.
