Comments on Attractions in Edinburgh, Scotland

Royal Mile

I was fortunate to work on the streets of the Royal Mile for a week (as a charity fundraiser) and the atmosphere was fantastic. Every shop keeper and stall vendor I spoke to were full of cheer and interesting to boot. The architecture is wonderful but it was the people that really created the beauty of this place. Even without all the brilliant activities such as the ghost walks and Edinburgh Castle it would be fantastic to simply potter about in the Royal Mile. I was there during the early summer before the start of the Edinburgh Festival so it was not too hectic just busy enough to be vibrant but not overcrowded.

Edinburgh Castle

Walking out of Edinburgh Waverley Station and venturing to your left onto Princess street, you can't help but notice the magnificent castle sitting proudly on top of the Edinburgh rock. Over 1000 years of history lies here and no visit to Edniburgh would be complete without a trip to Edinburgh castle. The castle contains beautiful artifacts including the Scottish Crown Jewels and the war memorial is also located here. Sadly in both these places, photography isn't allowed. The views from the highest point of the castle are worth every penny of the entrance fee and in every direction you are met with beautiful panoramas. In the month of August, the castle plays host to the Military Tattoo, an annual music extravaganza that attracts huge crowds.
