How Long Does It Take From Scotland To Ireland with Eurolines/National Express and/or the Megabus?

Glasgow to Belfast/Belfast to Dublin - Option 1

It takes around 6 h to 7 h 15 minutes to travel from Glasgow to Belfast on a direct bus (which you can book through National Express) and then another 2 h 35 minutes to 3 hours to go from Belfast to Dublin. The cheapest single ticket between Glasgow and Belfast that we could find was £24.00 and the cheapest return ticket we could find was £38.50, although most were priced at £48.00 or £49.00. You need to add the cost of a local bus or train ticket from Belfast to Dublin to get you to your destination.

Glasgow to Manchester/Manchester to Dublin - Option 2

The direct journey from Glasgow to Manchester takes between 4 hours and 55 minutes to 5 hours 20 minutes with Megabus. It then takes around 10 hours and 45 minutes to go from Manchester to Dublin on Eurolines, taking the total journey time up to between 15 hours 15 minutes and just over 16 hours plus connecting time in Manchester.

The cheapest single ticket we could find for the whole journey from Glasgow to Ireland was £36.50 and the cheapest return ticket was £53.00. Although we could not find any of the well-known £1 Megabus fares on this route for the various dates we specified, they are probably available in limited quantities so it is worth persevering.

Glasgow to Dublin via Manchester Airport and Holyhead - Option 3

The journey from Glasgow to Dublin via Manchester Airport and Holyhead takes around 19 hours 30 minutes including connecting times and while it may at first glance seem to take longer than the other options it is worth comparing the journey time to option 1 and option 2 for your chosen dates as the times stated for the other options do not include connecting times.

The different legs for the other 2 options have to be booked separately but this option can be booked under one ticket Glasgow to Dublin and is a recognised connecting journey. The cheapest price we could find for this journey was £47.00 for a single ticket and £59.00 for a return ticket.
